Description:
Oil painting on location with Billyo O’Donnell. The pleasure of painting out of doors in plein air can be one of the most enjoyable personal experiences for the artist. Billyo has taught plein air painting for over 10 years from Hawaii to Charleston, SC and many times in Italy. Billyo will work with each student making the experience of painting on location pleasant and enriching. Teaching his visual techniques. Each morning will begin with a demonstration. The group will then paint on the grounds of Spannocchia and after lunch we will visit a nearby hilltop village to paint at. The group will then meet back at Spannocchia that evening for wine on the terrace. After dinner we will meet for a critic and discussion of the days work. A car is required for this workshop. Billyo will rent a van and will have room for some students that would like to share in the cost. Canvas and Carriers provided. Visit www.Billyoart.com.
Coordinator Biography(ies):
Billyo is a Missourian - born and raised in a family of nine children approximately 70 miles west of St. Louis near the Missouri River - in Warren County. The family farm was surrounded by two landowners with over 14,000 acres. Consequently, his boyhood was spent living a “Huck Finn” kind of life roaming the forests and streams, fishing, hunting, and creating art.
His artwork as a child and young man has led to many adventures in his current life such as taking him on a cruise up the Hudson River on the Forbes family yacht and to Cumberland Island to stay in the family owned mansion, which gave him an opportunity to paint the island. He has also had the honor of painting the St Louis Symphony Orchestra during a full dress rehearsal, the Roswell Symphony Orchestra in New Mexico, and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He has taught landscape painting workshops from Hawaii to Charleston, SC and has taught many landscape painting workshops in Italy.
Billyo is recognized as one of America’s leading landscape painters by several prestigious plein air invitationals, and was included in a traveling exhibit and book, “Sea To Shining Sea,” curated by the Haggin Museum in Stockton, CA and comprised of 50 of America’s top landscape painters.
But, he takes the greatest pride in having been recently honored at the Governor's Mansion in Jefferson City for an unveiling of a selection of his 115 paintings in the book, “Painting Missouri,” authored by Karen Glines - depicting the 114 counties in Missouri and the city of St. Louis which is currently traveling the state of Missouri.
“This has been a trip I will never forget, the friendliness of the people, the views, the aroma of food and the food itself, the gardens and overwhelming sense of a reverence for the land. I highly recommend this place to enrich your soul and connect with the Earth.”
Linda Warner Constantino, March 2008
