Program Description:
Have you ever dreamed of escaping to an Italian Villa, relaxing in the Tuscan sun, dining on freshly prepared organic foods, cooking along side culinary masters, and learning about the intricacies of Italian wine? Make your dreams a reality, with an unforgettable visit to Castello di Spannocchia. The program’s activities combine a balanced itinerary of visits to local wineries and plenty of relaxation on the grounds of an organic agricultural estate nestled in the hills of Tuscany. You will indulge your senses with the tastes of Tuscany by sampling locally produced cheeses, salamis, wines, olive oil and honey. Learn first-hand how to prepare regional recipes with tips and techniques from our local chef, Loredana Betti. When you’re not in the kitchen cooking regional fare and tasting wine, you will enjoy nature walks, practice speaking Italian, and learn about gardening methods that observe the cycle of the seasonal crops and provide the kitchen with a fresh, flavorful harvest. Learn about the practice of honey production, bee dances and bee keeping history from our experienced beekeeper. Find out about more traditional cured pork products, and compare the flavor and quality benefits of pasturing pigs and letting them forage for chestnuts and acorns. By the time you depart Spannocchia you will be well versed with Tuscan flora and fauna, wine, food, bees, pigs that all play a part in the magic of Italy and the lure of Spannocchia. Coordinator Biography:
This program will be led by Program Director Lisa Pascal Mack and Castello Director Daniela Casarin. Both coordinators are creating this program and one or both of them will be present for the daily activities. This program will give you a true glimpse into the workings at Spannocchia as well as introduce you to some of the surrounding joys of Tuscany.
