Program Description:

During this 5-day stay at Spannocchia, students from the Governor’s Academy will enjoy a taste of Tuscany. Day trips to San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena and Florence are the highlights of the stay. The group travels by rental vans, allowing them to see the countryside and stop spontaneously if desired. Guided tours of sites in each city are included, and time is also provided for unguided sightseeing. A day is also spent at Spannocchia, including the historical tour of the Castello, a garden tour, a cooking lesson, and an Italian language lesson. After their stay at Spannocchia, the group travels to Rome for three days and nights.

Coordinator Biography:

Jeff Kelly has taught Latin (levels I-V including AP) at The Governor’s Academy for 16 years. He holds a Master’s Degree in Classical Civilizations from Harvard University, and has traveled in Italy on three separate trips, two with students and one with fellow Latin teachers. While he relishes the opportunity to visit ancient sites, he also thoroughly enjoys the myriad layers of culture found in Italy.

“Community dining was soo much fun! It was very family oriented and it gave us all a chance to socialize with the other guests.”
