Description:

The Sustainable Business Strategies in Italy experience is a short MBA graduate course exploring the unique business models utilized by Italian industry. Students will study emerging and mature businesses in the context of a western European culture competing in a global environment.

Coordinator Biography:

Gary Scudder specializes in the field of Operations Management and Strategy. Prior to coming to Owen in 1990, Professor Scudder served as an Associate Professor of Operations and Management Science at the Curtis L. Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Scudder has also been a visiting Professor at the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College. His research interests include business strategy and operations management. In March 2004, Professor Scudder was named Associate Dean at the Owen School, where his teaching excellence earned him the Dean's Teaching Award in 1994 and the James E. Webb Teaching Award in 1999. Through the course of his career, Professor Scudder has consulted with a number of large corporations including United Airlines, 3M, IDS, Minnesota Department of Transportation, Teledyne Brown Engineering, Philips Corporation, Motorola, Novartis, RR Donnelly, Air Products, the Methodist General Board of Discipleship, and Bridgestone/Firestone primarily in the areas of managing new product development and strategic planning. Professor Scudder’s research has been widely published and he makes frequent presentations to professional organizations. He was recently awarded the Wickham Skinner Award for Best Paper at the annual conference of the Production and Operations Management Society in Savannah, Georgia.
